gratitudes, new jacket, senate democrat capitulation, my photography
yesterday i was grateful for photography salon and the feedback i got...
today i am looking forward to a visit to sunny nails...

mirror selfie... i am wearing a new jacket i got from a vintage consignment store this past weekend... it was on the designer rack and probably the most expensive piece of clothing i currently own... just a little while ago i decided to look up the designer... it turns out she is a textile and wearable art artist... so, the jacket was probably fabricated by her studio out of fabric made in the studio or at least to the designs of the studio... though she appears to have looms, so maybe made in the studio... also, could it be one of a kind?…
here is some information from her website...
About — Joyce Wilkerson Textiles
I never know where the Muse might lead...right now she’s meandering down a new path. Making art has been part of my life as long as I can remember. I always wanted to be an artist, and was fortunate from a young age to have many teachers. Drawing, painting, printmaking, photography. Even a little sculpture. I began my artistic career as a printmaker. Then the unexpected gift of a loom changed my trajectory towards weaving, and a four decade career in creating cloth followed.
Currently, I produce a small collection of wearables and occasional pieces of mixed media. Other interests include Tai Chi, gardening, photography and sailing with my husband, Jon. We live in Port Townsend, WA.
here is a link to her representing gallery...
and here is a vest made from the same fabric...

my family lives on bainbridge island which is not far from port townsend... i visit 2-3 times a year... next time i am out there i plan to go visit her...
cold and typical november weather...
i continue to think about the democratic shutdown capitulation... i think what upsets me most is that i feel manipulated and used... i was told the issue was saving the obamacare subsidies that were put in place during the pandemic, which came with an expiration date when they were instituted... senate dems seemed to have used the issue to whip up the base during the recent elections... there was not true commitment to saving them... apparently it was known by many of the senators that the republicans would not cave on the issue... it is odd that only the one independent senator and democratic senators not seeking re-election joined the republicans in passing it... that smacks of something they intended to do all along and the provision of political cover for senators staying in the game... after that, it just seems like a bunch of manufactured mea culpas... and indignation... all performative... on mnsbc lawerence o'donnel was the apologist... explaining to the people that the senate is just not as simple as they think... it felt a little condescending...
i presented my photo project at in person salon last night and there was more questions and befuddlement than support... there was a good and lengthy conversation... i am not sure i know where it leaves me other than to forge ahead as envisioned and see where i go... it is early process yet... it may... likely will shift as i move forward... salon attendees were looking for a story arc... there isn't one... at least not in a one week edit... i expect a number of story arcs to present themselves in the end... the question is will they be strong enough to hold the interest of anyone but myself?...
i looked up democratic socialism... i wanted to understand it better... i came away with the impression that it is a democratic bridge from market capitalism to socialism... i would like to think that socialism could work... capitalism isn't a long term economic model... it destroys and exploits way too much...
Democratic socialism - Wikipedia
Democratic socialism is a left-wing economic and political philosophy that supports political democracy and some form of a socially owned economy, with a particular emphasis on economic democracy, workplace democracy, and workers' self-management within a market socialist, decentralised planned, or democratic centrally planned socialist economy. Democratic socialists argue that capitalism is inherently incompatible with the values of freedom, equality, and solidarity and that these ideals can only be achieved through the realisation of a socialist society. Although most democratic socialists seek a gradual transition to socialism, democratic socialism can support revolutionary or reformist politics to establish socialism. Democratic socialism was popularised by socialists who opposed the backsliding towards a one-party state in the Soviet Union and other countries during the 20th century. In Scandinavian countries as well as others, people often use 'social democracy' and 'democratic socialism' interchangeably to describe leftist movements aiming for gradual, democratic reform.
