gratitudes, new red dress, being trans in heteronormative community, epstein files, new photography, bulgarian female choir, my photographs

yesterday i was grateful for a winter solstice celebration, the women in my family, both here and gone, and winter's tale movie...
today i am looking forward to the farmer's market and more christmas movies...
i bought a new dress...

i got it from j. crew, which i had not considered before for my clothing purchases... too preppy for me in general, and this dress is a bit on the classic preppy side, but i look good in long sleeve knit maxi dresses and i have been wanting a red dress and i got it 50% off so i am thrilled...
i am seriously thinking about getting these shoes to go with it...

what do you think?... the problem i have is that as much as i love the idea of the shoes the reality is that i don't have much opportunity to wear them... they are going out shoes or party shoes and my wife isn't that into me in full fem mode when we go out... i love her dearly and know she loves me... she has been so understanding of this transition... so i get the boundaries and do my best to respect them... still... i long to be more fem more of the time...
i have been thinking lately that most of my time is spent imbedded in a mostly heteronormative environment... i suppose its a condition of being in the minority... my community is understanding and embracing of me, to be sure... i am so lucky in that regard... but i want to wear a sexy red dress with sexy red shoes out to dinner or to a party more often...
so, should i buy the shoes, or not... that is the question... if i buy them i won't wear them very much... but maybe just to wear them once or twice feeds the girl within me enough...
as probably should've been expected, the release of epstein files as required by law was far from complete... it is to be hoped that this will sour the maga crowd further on trump... between that and his attempt to tell them everything's ok economically, or will be, i hope the fate of his administration is being sealed... now we have to wait and see what extraordinary extents he may go to hold on to power...
In the afternoon, the department began to release the required materials. But despite the law’s specification that the department release ALL the records, it released just a fraction of the required materials, saying it would release more later. Missing were any of the FBI interviews with survivors or internal Justice Department memos about charging decisions.
i enjoyed this photographer's work...
"En Parallèle" by Photographer Samuel Pasquier & Olivier Charland
“If a resemblance appears, what does it mean? The human mind, primed to detect continuity, may impose coherence where none exists. How do we distinguish between recognizing a pattern in the world and projecting one onto it? When does recognition become pareidolia?… These questions deepen the project. They invite the possibility that what is at stake is not only the image, but the act of perception itself. We are confronted with the instability of knowing, the difficulty of separating what we see from how we see. In that sense, the work sits in quiet dialogue with a metaphysical question. Is what we perceive a reflection of the world outside us, or a construction of the world within?”
yesterday i was thinking about the political struggles happening both globally and locally... i often imagine dinosaurs squaring off in a survival of the fittest competition in which, ultimately, ethics, morality and the rule of law don't have a lot of meaning... power struggles are competitions that blow through these constraints on behavior... so, why do we bother?...
this morning i was reminded of this choir which i have encountered before...
Bulgarian State Radio & Television Female Vocal Choir: Le Mystère des Voix Bulgares | Pitchfork
Although the Bulgarian State Television Female Vocal Choir formed less than a century ago, with a verifiable context and history, writers and listeners still treat the ensemble’s music with the same mystification reserved for the pyramids of Giza, the menhirs of Stonehenge, or the cave paintings of the Neolithic age. Their demonstrations of the human voice are exceptional, presenting new possibilities as they transcend the mechanics of the throat, the grain of the body.
this is unique choral music based in the folk traditions of bulgaria, but given classical choir arrangements... its really lovely music... give it a listen...
