ice shooting of renee good, violence is the point, anger and hate, resistance through community building, lgbtq+ tv shows

yesterday i was grateful for football with my brother and the fifth day of freedom from intestinal issues... what a difference a change in diet can make...
today i am looking forward to a day of quiet thought and work, finishing with yoga with anne...
i have been frustrated by the conversation flowing out of the ice shooting death of Renee Good... a lot of parsing of what she and her wife could have or should have done... a lot of parsing of what the ice offer who shot her should, could have done... a lot of minutia about training and in the moment actions and reactions... while it is important to push back hard on a narrative that blames Renee Good and her wife for Renee's death, we loose sight of what brought these people together in space and time to collide and suffer...
let me state unequivocally that i believe the ice officer who shot Renee should at minimum be charged with (wo)manslaughter... and further, it looks very much like there might be a hate crime here... i believe local authorities should come together to investigate and take action... i don't presently believe that is going to happen... regardless, i believe the ice officer acted extremely excessively relative to the situation...
i also need to acknowledge that Rebecca Good, Renee's wife, probably contributed to escalating the situation... the shooting of her wife remains inexcusalble, but we all need to take a lesson from this... armed officials of the government have the capacity to maim and kill at a moments notice and our goal should always be to de-escalate the situation... human beings acting in the heat of the moment are dangerous...
however, returning to the larger issue... the administration of 47 is responsible for creating situations in which violence is inevitable... they have created a police force focused on deportation and told it to be aggressive... i believe the administration actually hopes for resistance and for incidents that can justify invoking the insurrection act... i believe they ultimately want to crush resistance... i believe creating situations with high potential for violence is part of the plan...
our best response is to resist... relentlessly... peacefully...
related to this i have been thinking about the difference between anger and hatred... while anger can get out of hand, tipping over into hatred or rage, both emotions fraught with the potential for violence... it can also be a useful emotion that leads to appropriate action to bring about change... so... lets get angry enough to resist... but then lets resist peacefully and prolifically...
How Are Hate and Anger Alike and Different? | Psychology Today
One comprehensive review of the literature concludes that hate is distinguishable from anger or feelings of revenge. It emphasizes that each has a different focus: “anger focuses on changing or restoring the unjust situation caused by another person, feelings of revenge focused on restoring the self, and hatred focuses on eliminating the hated person/group.” (Doorn, 2018)
i have talked about my trans-feminine explorations as an act of resistance to the present moment... this weekend my wife and i initiated what we hope will become a monthly soup and bread get togethers... i believe that one of the best answers we have to the present moment we are in is to do as much face to face interacting with the people in our communities as possible... build community... reinforce community... strengthen our ability to resist and survive what is happening... what is coming... and i believe this is necessary not only for the present political moment, but also for the present technological moment, which i believe is a large part of why we are experiencing what we are experiencing...
Then, on January 6, the fifth anniversary of the attack on the U.S. Capitol by Trump supporters determined to keep Trump in office despite Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden’s majority of 7 million votes, Trump’s White House rewrote the history of January 6, 2021, claiming that the rioters were “peaceful patriotic protesters” and blaming the Democrats for the insurrection.
That same day, after the Supreme Court had cut off the administration’s ability to federalize National Guard soldiers and send them to Democratic-led cities, the administration surged 2,000 federal agents to Minneapolis in the largest federal immigration enforcement operation ever launched.
The next morning, ICE agent Jonathan Ross shot and killed 37-year-old Renee Good, and the administration responded by calling Good a domestic terrorist.

Hacks
We cannot wait for the fifth season of Hacks, the dark comedy drama featuring formidable performances from gay icons Jean Smart and Hannah Einbinder. However, we can hold on as this upcoming season will be the show’s last. Creators Jen Statsky, Lucia Aniello and Paul W. Downs have often said they’ve considered Hacks a five-season series.
Last time we saw the pair, Deborah (Smart) returned to the US to reclaim her legacy while comedy writer Ava (Einbinder) was on her last straw. No word yet on the direction of season five, but if their strangers-to-enemies-to-friends arc does conclude with lovers, then the internet may finally rest happy.
Hacks season five is expected in 2026.
we already started watching The Pitt... and have watched all seasons of Hacks, which is wonderful... looking forward to another season... sad that it is the final season...
