A video of Trump in a bomber attacking American cities carries an implied threat that the disdain of throwing excrement doesn’t erase. This morning, Trump reinforced that threat when he reminded Fox News Channel host Maria Bartiromo: “Don’t forget I can use the Insurrection Act. Fifty percent of the presidents almost have used that. And that’s unquestioned power. I choose not to, I’d rather do this, but I’m met constantly by fake politicians, politicians that think that, that you know they it’s not like a part of the radical left movement to have safety. These cities have to be safe.”

last night we went to see/hear actor/musician/playwright jeff daniels... the last time i was so mesmerized by a performance was betty carter at lincoln center, not long before she died... it is a rare ability to enthrall people... he was smart, funny, warm, honest... at least as far as i could tell on the honest part... my wife used the term authentic... i would tend to agree, though that description of people and efforts may be in danger of overuse... i recommend attending any performance of his you are lucky enough to be near...

my first encounter with jd was in the hbo series the newsroom... the opening episode of the first season remains the single most compelling hour of television i think i have ever watched... the first season is phenomenal, the second season is pretty good too... it falls apart in the third season... rumor had it that aaron sorkin, the main brain behind the series, fell apart himself... i don't know how true that is, but i was very sad that it ended the way it did... with kind of a whimper...

part of what was chronicled in the series was the rise of christian fundamentalist reaction to the obama administration... it began in 2012, the beginning of his second term... at that time the reactionary movement was referred to as the "american taliban" in the show... we all know where we are now...

i am deeply worried about what is coming down the tracks at us... i am struggling to see how we get past this present moment without significant bloodshed... more than 8 million people showed up to protest the administration of 47... the protest was pointed, peaceful and celebratory... the reaction to it by the administration was disgraceful and made no attempt to deny the authoritarian aspirations of the administration... there will be more protests... they will get bigger as we move towards the midterm elections... the administration will become more and more unhinged...

that's what i am thinking today...

to end on a better note... here is a picture of the dahlias we bought at the farmer's market yesterday...
